The school congratulates the 2023 Year 6 cohort for their excellent achievements in the 2023 GCE A-Level Examinations! A total of 436 Dunmanians sat for the Examinations, and they have done themselves and the school proud with their hard work and achievements!

The cohort achieved a median University Admission Score (UAS) of 83. More than 1 in 5 students scored at least 6 distinctions. Apart from doing well in the H1 and H2 subjects, our students have achieved highly commendable results in the H3 subjects with about 4 in 5 students who offer the H3 subjects scored a Distinction or Merit.

With our Dunmanians’ excellent academic performance and impressive achievements in the CCAs, they have proven themselves to be well-equipped to care, to serve and to lead, and are ready to contribute to Singapore in their capacities as Role-Models of Learning, Leaders of Honour and Pillars of Society.

ANDERS HONG 6C37

"As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others." - Bill Gates.

A well-rounded student, Anders excelled in his academic endeavours and as well as his service to the school and wider community. His critical and innovative thinking enabled him to achieve outstanding performance in all his tasks.

As President of the Student Council, Anders demonstrated strong leadership, organisational and mentoring skills. He led a team to successfully organise a robust Leadership Symposium that equipped participants with relevant leadership skills. He encouraged his peers to take risks and learn from their mistakes, and intentionally mentored them in their leadership journeys. In addition, he used his knowledge and skills in First Aid to plan well-structured training sessions for the St. John Brigade.

Anders had a strong aptitude for Geography and took part in activities to broaden his learning. He was part of Team Singapore at the 18th International Geography Olympiad and helped the team to clinch the Overall Championship. His ability to solve intricate problems and think critically under pressure also earned him a Silver Medal at the event. Furthermore, he worked with teammates to develop a visionary solution for the redevelopment of Jurong Lake District at an annual competition organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

With his industrious work ethic and passion to serve others, we are confident that Anders will achieve success in his future undertakings, and we wish him all the best!

LAIYLA ALISHA NAIR 6C21

Laiyla is a dynamic and dedicated individual who has left an indelible mark on the school through her outstanding leadership roles and meaningful contributions in different domains.

As the Vice-Captain of the Basketball team, Laiyla led her team to national Third placing in the National School Games, inspiring her peers with her grit and tenacity. Despite having no prior experience in the sport when she first joined the school, Laiyla's discipline and determination propelled her to excel, setting a shining example for her teammates.

Beyond the basketball court, Laiyla demonstrated exemplary leadership in many different platforms. As a moderator at SG Perspectives, she was articulate, eloquent and an inspiration to her peers. A member of the House Committee in the Student Council, Laiyla was committed to furthering the House spirit. Her role as the Head of Corporate Relations in the school's International and Strategic Affairs Council showcased her ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and empower her team members. Furthermore, in the Goh Keng Swee Future Thinking Challenge 2022 where she demonstrated critical and inventive thinking skills by developing potential scenarios for Singapore's national security challenges in a post-COVID-19 world, Laiyla and her team clinched the Commendation Award.

Recognised for her outstanding contributions, Laiyla was the proud recipient of the SAF Young Leaders Award in 2023 and the Dunmanian Award in 2022. Her innate leadership potential, fuelled by her passion for service and pursuit of excellence, ensures that she will continue to pave the way positive change in the future. We are proud of her and wish her all the best!

HENG YI WANG 6C34

As Steve Jobs wisely postulated, "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do."

Yi Wang's academic journey is marked by distinction, having undertaken the challenge of studying two H3 subjects, Physics and Game Theory, while consistently achieving stellar academic results. His commitment to learning extended beyond personal achievement; Yi Wang was ever ready to lend a helping hand to his peers, reflecting the true spirit of collaboration and support.

Yi Wang's impact was not confined to the classroom. As an all-rounder, he extended his passion for service beyond the school gates. Engaging in multiple volunteering commitments outside school, Yi Wang's efforts stood out, especially in his Self-Initiated Values in Action project, Mi-grant My-appreciation. This project, centred on interacting with migrant workers and integrating them into Singaporean society, highlighted Yi Wang's dedication to creating a sense of belonging. By fostering connections and breaking down barriers, Yi Wang helped these workers feel welcomed, valued, and an integral part of the community.

As he embarks on future pursuits, we are confident that Yi Wang will continue to be a beacon of inspiration and service, leaving an indelible mark on the world around him.

LAM YIK TING 6C36

In the realm of computing and data science, Lam Yik Ting stands out as a true trailblazer. His journey at Dunman High School has been marked by a series of accomplishments and contributions that reflect his exceptional talent and dedication to the field.

Yik Ting's affinity for computing is evident in his participation in numerous competitions and events, where he has consistently demonstrated his expertise. His selection as one of the six students to represent Singapore in the Global Cybersecurity Camp is a testament to his skills. Furthermore, he was placed Second Runner Up in the PowerShell Malware Hackathon that was conducted during the camp. His research projects showed his interest in solving problems like detecting malicious malware samples and addressing issues related to eldercare. His achievements included a Gold award in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2023 and the publication of his work in the 21st Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Dependable, Autonomic & Secure Computing 2023, highlighting his innovative approach and analytical skills.

Beyond his academic achievements, Yik Ting has shown remarkable leadership qualities. As the student in charge of BuildingBloCS, he played a pivotal role in expanding the programme's reach and impact, both locally and internationally. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident in his role as a co-founder of Tidbits, a gamified study app designed to enhance learning experiences. His passion for computing and data science, coupled with his commitment to giving back to the community and creating a better world for all, make him a true role model for his peers.

Despite his many accomplishments, Yik Ting remains grounded and humble, embodying the values of Dunman High School. A visionary driving change and innovation in the world of technology, he is poised to make a lasting impact on the world around him. His journey of exploration and discovery serves as an inspiration to all who aspire to push the boundaries of what is possible.

HO XU YING NICOLE 6C47

In the words of Marie Curie, "We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves."

Nicole took her passion to new heights in the field of STEM. She contributed to numerous transformative research projects beyond the curriculum, such as her impactful work at A*STAR Singapore Immunology Network. Leading her group mates in numerous STEM competitions and forums throughout her academic journey, Nicole showcased that excellence knows no gender boundaries in traditionally male-dominated fields. She held a steadfast belief in the potential of every individual, emphasising that regardless of background, one can contribute significantly to the world of STEM.

Nicole's dedication and initiative, coupled with her quiet strength and unwavering confidence, have made her a remarkable student in Dunman High School. She has proven to be an exceptional leader and all-rounder who has left a lasting impact on the school community. We have full confidence that Nicole is poised for a future filled with brightness and fulfilment.

RAYNA SING 6C47

Rayna stands out as a shining example of resilience, dedication, and leadership. She was a dedicated sportswoman who embraced challenges willingly, even pursuing bouldering outside school to enhance her skills, despite the additional time she would have to spend on training. In 2023, she represented DHS in two competitions, emerging as the overall Champion in the Inter-Schools Bouldering Competition. Her foray into Track and Field as a second CCA demonstrated not only her resilience but also her commitment to personal growth and development. Rayna also played a pivotal role in the Sports Leaders Programme, organising key events such as the Year Six Sports Leaders Farewell Ceremony 2022 and the Year Five Sports Leaders Induction 2023. Rayna also contributed to the school sports mascot project, lending her musical talents to create captivating publicity videos.

Rayna's commitment to community service was exemplified through her involvement in YMCA Youth for Causes projects. Leading her team in collaboration with the Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES) in 2022, Rayna successfully raised awareness and funds for neglected urban birds in Singapore.

Rayna’s dedication to academic excellence, leadership in sports, and commitment to community service embodies the DHS motto, 'To Care, to Serve, to Lead.' As she continues to pursue her path, Rayna's positive impact is bound to leave an indelible mark on those around her.

ABIGAIL HSU RUI-EN 6C32

Abigail's journey is a testament to her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment. She began showcasing her leadership prowess in Year Three as the Assistant Head of Department for Council Relations in the Student Council. Leading seniors two years her senior in the CR department, she not only held junior appointments but also commanded respect through her inclusive approach and genuine openness to learning from more experienced peers.

Additionally, as Vice-President of departments in SC, her ability to navigate the complexities of leadership was evident: despite the hierarchical constraints, Abigail fostered an environment where different perspectives were valued, showcasing her respect for diversity within the team. What set Abigail apart was her unique approach to providing guidance and support. Non-intrusive and considerate, she coached and mentored her peers with patience and gentle prodding when needed.

Beyond her leadership roles, Abigail's involvement as Vice-Captain in the Girls’ Basketball team revealed her commitment to co-curricular activities, where long hours of training are the norm. Despite this heavy load, she not only excelled academically but also served as a role model for her peers by helping in their studies where she could, reflecting her commitment to a supportive learning environment.

Abigail's unique blend of inclusivity, guidance, and dedication sets her apart from others. We wish her the very best in her future undertakings!

CHANG WERN KHAI, MATTHEW 6C34

Despite being new to the school, Matthew seamlessly became an integral part of the DHS family in 2022, leaving an enduring impact that garnered admiration from his peers. His demonstration of competence and responsibility quickly established him as a natural leader, showcasing impeccable organisational skills.

Motivated by a fervent desire for positive change, Matthew took on the challenge of running for office in the Student Council and successfully secured the position of House Captain for House Homa in 2022. In this influential role, he collaborated seamlessly with the House Committee, meticulously planning school events and implementing initiatives that injected vibrancy into the school environment throughout 2022 and 2023.

Beyond his school commitments, Matthew displayed his socially responsible nature by actively contributing to both the school and various external organisations. Notably, he played a pivotal role in organising Project Metanoia in 2022, a self-initiated Values in Action project aimed at raising funds for St. Andrew’s Autism Centre, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact beyond school walls. Matthew is undeniably a passionate individual with exceptional leadership qualities that set him apart from others.

GONG YIZHEN 6C12

Yizhen, a distinguished recipient of the esteemed Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) Scholarship, has truly become a shining example of excellence within our school community. As a BSP scholar, Yizhen has honed robust cross-cultural skills, allowing her to approach global issues with a nuanced perspective. Her proficiency in both English and Chinese has enabled her to navigate effortlessly through diverse cultural landscapes. In addition, Yizhen's passion for English Literature showcases a keen intellect and profound appreciation for the intricacies of literary works. In addition to her academic pursuits, Yizhen has actively engaged with current affairs and the Humanities by challenging herself with Higher 3 Economics. Her participation in the City Development Limited (CDL) and UN Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) Young SDG Leaders Award reflects her commitment to addressing global challenges and leveraging her skills for greater societal impact in the future.

Yizhen's contributions to the school community are equally noteworthy. She held multiple leadership positions, including an active role in the Student Council since 2019, and was elected as the Vice-President (Houses) due to her exceptional service to students. Successfully managing the planning and execution of large-scale events for Senior High students, she created enduring memories for the school population. Yizhen's dedication extends beyond event management, as she diligently mentors and cares for her peers, actively contributing to the development of other student leaders.

Yizhen's story exemplifies the spirit of our school, inspiring others to strive for excellence and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

LIM YING JIE, ELIZA 6C43

An avid sportsperson, Eliza played a key role in two sports, Touch Rugby and Softball. Eliza was Vice-Captain of the Touch Rugby team and under her leadership, Eliza helped to build a strong team spirit among the team members. She set out to be a role model for her teammates, striking a balance between adopting a serious attitude during training sessions while enjoying the sport. When the team’s morale was low, she uplifted the team’s spirits by encouraging and motivating them. Their hard work paid off when the team achieved First placing in the National Schools Touch Rugby Championships 2023. Eliza was also a school team player for the Softball team from 2018 to 2023. The camaraderie Eliza and her teammates established over the years helped them to achieve a Top Four placing in the 2022 National School Games, and a Second placing in the 2023 season. Eliza also displayed immense tenacity as a sportsperson. Despite tearing her ligament two months before the NSG in 2023, she did not despair and instead, with the encouragement of her coach, teachers and teammates, she continued with modified training and self-initiated gym sessions to get back to her pre-injury form, helping to drive her team forward in the NSG.

A self-assured young individual who is strongly committed to her goals and friends, Eliza is one who leads through her words and actions. We are proud of you, Eliza!

GRIZELDA SNG YAN NING 6C44

When it comes to school leadership and community service, Grizelda emerges as an inspiring figure, embodying the timeless wisdom articulated by King George VI: "The highest of distinctions is service to others." As a Student Councillor, Grizelda's genuine nature has earned her deep respect and admiration, establishing her as a true role model. Her authenticity fosters trust and camaraderie among fellow students, navigating conflicts with finesse and maintaining a harmonious school environment. Beyond academic responsibilities, she consistently demonstrates a genuine concern for her peers' well-being.

Celebrated for selflessness and dedication to community service, Grizelda's journey began at age 12, witnessing the plight of underprivileged children in Punggol's rental flats. This experience ignited her passion, leading her to Lumie Lessons, providing free tuition, and the Youth Action Challenge, raising awareness about low-income families. Her sustained passion for weekly sessions in service brings profound meaning to her life, shaping her mindset, thinking, and attitude. Grizelda's ability to see things from differing perspectives enables her to make informed decisions and connect meaningfully, showcasing a deep understanding of the world.

As a true role model, she inspires peers to embrace leadership, authenticity, and a commitment to positive community impact. Grizelda's journey of selfless service and leadership stands as a testament to school values. In the spirit of King George VI's wisdom, Grizelda exemplifies the transformative power of genuine, dedicated service.

CHEN XINYUAN 6C12

Xinyuan is a versatile leader, skilfully merging effective communication, empathetic service, and impactful contributions in both school and the community. Her roles as Chairperson, event coordinator, and dedicated volunteer showcase a dynamic skill set, grounded in a genuine passion for uplifting others.

In her role as Chairperson, Xinyuan placed great emphasis on the welfare of the class by organising diverse events to build camaraderie, from social gatherings to community service projects. During exam periods, Xinyuan not only actively checked on classmates, offering crucial encouragement and support, but also went the extra mile to provide assistance to peers facing academic challenges. Furthermore, as the student in charge of the Decoration Committee for Dunman High Girl Guides' 55th Anniversary Campfire in 2023, Xinyuan showcased exceptional leadership. Coordinating with other committee heads, she led her team of juniors to ensure the success of the campfire, fostering a sense of community within the school. Xinyuan's commitment extended to her role in the Photography Society. Sacrificing personal time on weekends, she covered over 50 hours of events, serving as an Operations Coordinator, displaying strong teamwork with fellow Executive Committee members. In addition, recognising the importance of societal contribution from a young age, Xinyuan actively contributed as a Journalism Photographer in the Lianhe Zaobao Student Correspondents Club, supporting the local media industry.

Xinyuan's involvement in multiple service-oriented initiatives clearly reflects her servant leadership approach, embodying a commitment to uplift her peers and make a positive impact in her community. 

ONG JONG JOON 6C33

As Lao Tzu once said, "To lead people, walk beside them". This quote characterises Jong Joon's leadership style, which has guided and inspired his peers. Among the many student leaders in the school, Jong Joon stands out as one who is compassionate and grounded in values.

Jong Joon was a meticulous and dedicated leader in his different leadership roles. As a Cadet Inspector in the National Police Cadet Corps, planner for the Japanese Arts Festival and the Class Secretary and Treasurer, Jong Joon contributed valuable insight and creative solutions. His dedicated service to different groups earned him the trust and respect of people around him.

He also showed a strong commitment to his academic endeavours. He participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition, where he was awarded the Proficiency Award in recognition of his strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition, he served as a facilitator for the Singapore Perspectives sharing event in school, where he skilfully guided group discussions and engaged participants in constructive dialogue on national issues.

Jong Joon's positive attitude towards learning and his sincerity towards people make him a role model that others look up to. We are confident that he will continue to shine brightly in the path that he chooses to embark on and have a positive influence on his peers.

WANG YUHAN 6C22

Enthusiastic and dedicated, Yuhan demonstrated a deep passion for the humanities and social sciences as she actively engaged in a variety of activities to broaden her understanding and skills.  In 2021, she made a mark on the international stage by clinching the Second Prize in the John Locke Essay Competition, addressing socio-political issues with finesse. Furthermore, despite not being a History student, Yuhan undertook an ambitious independent research project resulting in a 9000-word essay, 'Marriage Alliances in Tang China,' published in the prestigious Concord Review in 2022. She also attended the Stanford Summer Humanities Institute, completing the course 'Racial Identity in American Imagination' under the guidance of Stanford University professor Allyson Hobbs. Yuhan's involvement in multiple activities showcased her commitment to personal growth.

Yuhan was also someone who would step up to lead by example, and with great care for others. Yuhan served as the Chairperson of Publications from 2022 to 2023, overseeing the biannual publication of D’Hour, the bilingual student magazine. Her social conscience also shone through in her collaboration with Migrant Writers of Singapore, publishing a collection of literary works by migrants, as well as her active involvement in the Community Council, aiding elderly individuals in learning conversational English.

Yuhan is someone who embodies academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and compassionate leadership. We wish her the very best in her future endeavours.
